UAH Baseball Chargers Sign Three for '09

(HUNTSVILLE) -  A speedy left-handed swinging centerfielder is one of three signees announced by UAH baseball coach Lowell Mooneyham.

Joining the Chargers for the 2009 season is Javon Pickett, who stole 43 bases as a freshman for Bevill State Community College. Pickett is a graduate of Leeds High School. Mooneyham boasted of his 6.5 speed on the bases.

Also joining the Chargers are catcher-1st baseman Justin McNeese and pitcher Ryan Wheeler.

McNeese hit .535 with 12 homers and 72 RBI as a junior at Richland High School in Lynnville, Tennessee.

"Justin earned All-District and District MVP honors last season," remarked Mooneyham.

Wheeler is a versatile player who can field a number of positions, as well as take the mound, but as a junior last spring for West Limestone High, Wheeler posted 6 saves and a perfect 0.00 ERA.

Wheeler, an engineering student, also hit .410 with 4 HRs at the plate.

The Chargers open the 2008 season on Feb. 1 at Flagler.
