Christmas for Kids in DeKalb County

Sheriff Jimmy Harris would like to announce events upcoming to benefit the DeKalb County Sheriff's Mounted Unit Christmas for Kids.

Christmas for Kids is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Mounted Unit that aims to provide Christmas gifts for children of families who are unable to purchase Christmas gifts themselves.

Donations of money and/or toys are appreciated before December 8, as the Mounted Unit plans to distribute toys on December 15. In addition, angel trees and toy drop boxes are in locations throughout the county.  Donations can also be brought to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office on Jordan Road in Fort Payne.

On November 30 at 6:00 p.m., a singing will be held at the DeKalb Theatre in Fort Payne featuring gospel music and songs of the season.

A $5.00 donation will be the price of admission.  The following day, December 1, a Sporting Clay Tournament will be held at Northeast Alabama Sporting Clays, with proceeds to benefit Christmas for Kids.  The tournament will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Sheriff Harris said, "This is really a good organization if you want to help out a needy child for Christmas.  We have a very dedicated group of people working to make this happen. We hope as many people as are able will come out and participate in these events and help us make this program a success."

Applications for Christmas for Kids may be filled out until November 30 at DHR.
