Thompson slams Giuliani's record on gun control

BRISTOL, N.H. (AP) - Presidential hopeful Fred Thompson is trying to paint differences between himself and Republican rival Rudy Giuliani.

Thompson claims Giuliani should stop basing his stances on his time as New York City's mayor. He told a crowd in a New Hampshire gun store today that New York "is not emblematic of the rest of the country."

The former Tennessee senator says Giuliani has stood with prominent Democrats on gun control legislation over the years.

Thompson badly trails in New Hampshire. A recent poll shows him with only 4 percent support compared to Giuliani's's 16 percent.

Both men trail former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who's polling at 33 percent in the state.

The New Hampshire presidential primary is set for January 8th.
