Duo arrested for forcing their way into a home with a gun

Investigators with the Huntsville Police Department's West Precinct have charged two people in a home-invasion style robbery that happened Tuesday on Pine Avenue.

Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the man and woman claimed that their vehicle broke down and needed to use the phone. When the homeowners agreed, the suspects forced their way into the home at gunpoint. A good vehicle description was given by the victims and witnesses and broadcast over police radio.

On Wednesday, Sgt. Brent Thatcher of the South Precinct alertly spotted the vehicle in a parking lot on South Memorial Parkway and the occupants who matched the description of the suspects. Both were arrested and booked into the Madison County Metro Jail.

William Howard Shager, 23, and Jana Denise Earls, 27 were both charged with two counts of robbery and one count of possession of cocaine.

Both remain in the Metro Jail awaiting bond.
