Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Joe Turnham has opened qualifying for Democratic candidates running in the special election for House District 12. Due to the resignation of former Democratic Rep. Neal Morrison, the Governor has called a special election to fill the vacant seat representing a large part of Cullman County. Candidates interested in seeking the Democratic nomination are encouraged to fill out qualifying paperwork and pay the $500 filing fee before the deadline of Wednesday, October 3 at 5:00 p.m.
Party primaries are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 13. In the event that no one candidate is able to win a majority of votes in each party primary, a runoff election will be held on December 18 and a general election will be held Tuesday, January 29.
All citizens interested in standing for the Democratic nomination in the House District 12 race need to submit qualifying paperwork and pay the qualifying fee with the party by the deadline listed above.
