Albertville property tax will fund school renovations

Albertville voters approved a six-mil property tax increase with a portion of that tax going to renovate Albertville High School.

More than 2500 voters showed up to the polls Tuesday at the Crossroads Mall off 431 in Albertville.

The 2005 plan failed by 162 votes, and yesterday it passed by a little more than 100.

The final numbers are 1388 yes and 1286 no.

The crowd applauded the final tally, and one of those in attendance was Albertville City School's Superintendant Ric Ayer.

Ayer said, "We have a lot of positive feedback, and I think a lot of people understand what's going on in the education system, and how important this commitment is for the future of Albertville City."

The completed project at Albertville High School is expected to take about two years and will include a new fine arts facility, more classroom space, and a new stadium.
