Jasper, Tennessee. - On September 11, 2007, the Marion County Forestry Association (MCFA) is sponsoring a "Logger Night" at the Marion County Fair. Activities will begin at 6 P.M. (CST) at the Marion County fair grounds located behind the Dairy Queen close to the intersection of state routes 41 and 28.
There will be a log loader competition for professional loggers/saw millers, a directional felling demonstration, log rolling for fair goers, booths, and equipment exhibitions.
Nortrax, a heavy equipment dealer with offices in Chattanooga, will be hosting the Loader Competition. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded with $800.00 going to the winner. This timed event for professional loader operators involves moving blocks of wood with a knuckleboom loader from one "checkerboard" to another. Bridgeport Power Equipment, a Bridgeport Alabama STIHL dealer, is hosting the Log Rolling event. Any two 18 year and older fair goers may try their hand at rolling a log along a short course using cant hooks in this timed event. Prizes awarded for the fastest times.
Gregg Marble, Marion County logging contractor, will demonstrate proper directional tree felling techniques. Gregg has represented our region twice in the national "Game of Logging" competition. Chain saw safety, use of wedges, and proper felling safety will be highlighted as Gregg demonstrates on several poles "planted" at the arena.
Southern Underground, a Chattanooga equipment dealer, will demonstrate land clearing and brush mulching equipment. You will be able to see how unwanted brush or a privet thicket can be taken care of.
