Terri Barnes, a photography student at UNA for three years, has won fourth place in the color photography category of
magazine's 27th Annual College Photography Contest.
The Best of College Photography contest drew more than 28,000 images from more than 1,000 participating photography programs, according to art department secretary Mary Hanson.
"The annual showcases the best of the photography talent submitted to (the contest)," Hanson said.
"It was something I was not expecting," Barnes said. "When I mailed my photo to the contest last year, I remember thinking, ‘Two dollars (the entry fee) isn't a huge loss.' So when I got the letter in the mail a few months later telling me I won fourth place in color photography, I was thrilled. It was a big surprise and an honor."
The top four photographs in each category will be published in
Barnes has been studying photography at UNA for three years. She says she focuses on documentary and journalistic styles.
She will be transferring to Arizona State University to finish her degree this fall.
