Authorities search Whitton's property for signs of missing mother, daughter

Search crews spent Saturday looking for a missing mother and daughter from Jackson County.

Kim Whitton and 11-year-old Haleigh Culwell were last seen June 21st at their home near Section.

Search crews from Jackson and DeKalb counties, with help from the HEMSI search dog unit, scoured Kirby Creek. The creek runs right along Barry Whitton's property in Jackson County.

But today's efforts turned up no sign of the missing mother and daughter. Jackson County Sheriff Dennis Miller says they had no information they could be found near the creeks, but said the search was the result of numerous tips from the community.

"We've just had several requests from individuals that this would be an area of interest. And all we can do is hope to eliminate this area," said Miller.

Barry has been called a suspect in their disappearance. He's currently in federal custody for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.
