Huntsville preparing to build new high school

Huntsville is getting a new high school.

Land has been purchased to expand the new Lee High School.

"The old building so old, need a lot of repair and work so we decided it would be better to build a new facility," says Huntsville City School Superintendent Doctor Ann Roy Moore.

They are expanding the current campus to more than 51 acres after purchasing additional land for a little more than $1 million.

The cost to build the new Lee High school is around $42 million.

$10 million of the construction costs is being paid by a tax package approved by local leaders last fall.

The new campus will take up 235,000 square feet .

There are plans to build a $1 million pedestrian bridge.

"We also want state-of-the art performance center outside because it serves as a magnet school that attracts students to the area of that school," says Moore.

School leaders say it will take about 2 years to finish the new high school.
