Verizon seeking to hire 1000 more workers

Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless provider in the United States, welcomes its first group of call center employees as they begin a comprehensive training program at the company's temporary recruiting and training facility located in Huntsville.

The intensive training program will prepare employees to serve customers at the upcoming Verizon Wireless facility under construction in Huntsville. These classes will last 4-6 weeks depending on the position.

More than 150 employees will begin their training this week.

Jeremiah Knight, director Customer Service at the new 152,000 square foot call center and state headquarters, said he was looking forward to working with the new employees.

"I am thrilled to begin building our new team," said Knight. "We will work together to fulfill Verizon Wireless' commitment to continue to provide customers with the best customer experience in the industry."

Knight and his team will handle all aspects of customer service operations, including technical support, customer retention and quality service delivery. Verizon Wireless is consistently ranked as one of the best places to work in the country because of its employee-friendly policies.

For the sixth consecutive year, Verizon Wireless was recently named to Training magazine's list of the Top 125 Training Organizations in America.

Recognized for its training and development programs, the company is one of the highest ranked businesses on the list, placing No. 4 this year, up from No. 6 last year. The company has been named one of Working Mother magazine's "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" for five consecutive years and was recognized by Health magazine as one of 10 U.S. employers to best help women balance their professional and personal responsibilities.

Verizon Wireless also offers an industry-leading compensation and benefits package. Through its Total Rewards Program, benefits include health care coverage that begins on the first day of employment, participation in the company's 401(k) program (dollar-for-dollar company match up to 6% of the employee's contribution), profit sharing, annual cash bonuses and tuition reimbursement for continuing education. Employees can also take advantage of day care and health care flexible spending accounts and an on-site fitness center.

Last week, Verizon Wireless received double honors from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a nonprofit group dedicated to building and recognizing outstanding workplaces.  For the fifth consecutive year, the Alliance presented Verizon Wireless with its Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval, which recognizes visionary employers that view workplace excellence as a strategic business imperative.    The company was also named again as a 2007 Health & Wellness Trailblazer, an award initiated last year to honor employers demonstrating exemplary commitment to the overall physical and mental health of their workforce.
