Crackdown in Shoals neighborhood lands 15 in jail

A crackdown in a Shoals neighborhood landed 15 people behind bars in a matter of hours.

This week the Florence Police Street Crimes Unit targeted some trouble spots in Florence in Lauderdale County.

This time the unit made the arrests around downtown Florence.

With summer events in full swing the department especially wanted to make sure to clean up those areas.

The street crimes units take tips from the community and after several complaints about certain areas in or around downtown Florence, the unit headed that way.

They staked out those specific hot spots in an effort to clean up those areas.

In just 4 hours they arrested 15 people on various charges, including Travis Eric Fallows and Gary Wayne Baskins.

They were arrested after a pound of marijuana was found in their vehicle.

Shameka Latrice Ridgeway and Lannarick Demone Thompson were also arrested on drug charges.

A warrant from the state of Michigan for rape and drug charges landed Eriah Christopher Stewart in jail.

"We're basically generated from citizen complaints. They call us and say there's some unusual activity in a neighborhood. Because the general patrol shifts just don't have the time to focus on those and that's what they have been doing and they have had great success with it."

The unit plans on making on-going efforts to target different areas citizens are concerned about to make them safer.
