Dealing with drought through prayer

"Throughout our history, Alabamians have turned in prayer to God to humbly ask for His blessings to hold us steady through times of difficulty..."

Are these the words of a minister? No, these are the words of Gov. Bob Riley, who has declared an entire week as "Days of Prayer for Rain" in Alabama.

By now you know that the bone-bleaching drought we are experiencing in the Valley has reached historic proportions.

It can be a little unsettling to think that hope and prayer are all we have left in dealing with a crisis that faces Alabama's largest industry - Agriculture. But such is the case when the obstacle is Mother Nature.

There are a lot of things we can and should be praying for in addition to rainfall. Let's hope that all of these intentions get answered soon. And when the time comes for action that the governor and all of us can make the most of what we are blessed with.
