City votes to appeal decision to re-instate Florence Policeman Pete Williford

A resolution introduced by the Florence Mayor Bobby Irons and Chief of Police Rick Singleton may prevent Florence policeman Pete Williford from returning to the department.

Tuesday the Florence City Council voted in favor of the resolution to appeal the civil service board's decision to re-instate Williford and demote him to Lieutenant.

The Chief removed Williford from the force after a sexual harassment investigation.

The decision overturned the Chief's decision to fire him.

Chief Singleton says, "[The appeal] carries the issue to the circuit court of Lauderdale County and of course Williford will be on administrative leave pending that appeal."

They hope the resolution will uphold a no tolerance policy for workplace harassment.
