Despite tragedy, Lee High School student shows strength, honors her friends

It's Prom night for Lee High School students!

For many Lee High seniors, their last year in high school has been overshadowed by the tragic events of November 20. Tonight, they will try to make new memories.

Felicia Collier is one of them. She was the last student to leave Huntsville Hospital after being critically injured when her school bus careened off I-565.

Felicia has had several surgeries to correct her left eye and still faces several more.

Initially, she did not feel comfortable attending the Prom, yet she soon remembered her 3 friends who died in that crash who wouldn't get a chance to go.  It was the remembrance of her friends that convinced her to go.

Laura Collier, the mother of Felicia, told us, "She said momma, at first she didn't want to go, but then she said, momma, she was gonna go to the Prom for the girls, she said right now, I'm a strong person and she's doing it for the girls.

Felicia Collier said, "I have a brown and gold dress with brown and gold shoes. And a brown and gold purse to match it."

Felicia has been studying at home due her injuries, but will graduate with her classmates in just one month.
