Major drug bust in Albertville - WAFF-TV: News, Weather and Sports for Huntsville, AL

Major drug bust in Albertville

Authorities in one Valley city make a record breaking drug bust.

Nearly 5 pounds of ice, the purest form of methamphetamine, was seized Wednesday night on Cochran Lane in Albertville.

That is more than $200,000 worth, and authorities say taking that much off the streets is a major victory.

Albertville police, with the help of the FBI, served a warrant at this house on Cochran Lane in Albertville Wednesday night.

Unbelievably, they found nearly 5 pounds of ice.

"We feel like the seizure of this ice, which is of course the raw form of methamphetamine, is possibly the largest seizure of its kind, ice, in the history of Marshall county," says Albertville Police Chief Benny Womack.

Also in the house was more than $25,000 cash, and guns, including an SKS assault rifle.

5 people are being detained, but so far only 2 have been officially charged.

25 year old Roberto Salgado Giles and 46 year old Ambrosa Salgado Cambarai are charged with trafficking meth.

Albertville Police Chief Benny Womack hopes it sends a strong message to other dope dealers in the area.

"Taking almost 5 pounds of ice off the streets, obviously these persons are large players in our community. And taking that much off the street can have a great impact on our community as far as drug trafficking and drug use," says Womack.

All 5 suspects are being held here in the Albertville City Jail.
