The death of a young volunteer firefighter is bringing a reminder to all volunteer fire departments.
State labor officials want to make sure they know that no one under 18 is allowed to ride in a fire truck en route to an emergency call, or fight fires.
That's been the law for more than 10 years.
The death of 17-year-old Asbury Volunteer Firefighter-In-Training Alethea Nixon is the reason labor officials are reminding all fire departments of the rules.
In July, Nixon was riding with three others in a pumper truck when it flipped over one of the double bridges on Martling Road in Marshall County.
They were responding to a house fire.
Labor officials say Nixon should have never been in the truck.
They're making volunteer fire departments aware of the existing law to make sure what happened to Nixon doesn't happen to anyone else.
