Alabama Heart of Dixie Llama and Alpaca Show

The Heart of Dixie Llama and Alpaca Show will be held September 16 and 17, 2006 at the Agribition Center, 4925 Moores Mill Road. Huntsville, AL 35811.  It is located on the Northeast side of Huntsville on Moores Mill Road between Hwy 72E and Winchester Road (between the two sets of railroad tracks.) The Halter classes begin at 8:00 AM Saturday morning with performance classes starting at 8:00 AM on Sunday.

There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to watch the classes and meet the llamas and their owners.  We will have farms from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee represented.

Llamas and alpacas make great companion animals as well as providing a wonderful fiber for spinning and weaving.  They can be used for public relations, visiting schools, libraries, retirement centers and even birthday parties.  Llamas are used to carry packs and pull carts.  The cart driving classes will be Saturday evening.

Directions to the Agribition Center: from I-65, take Exit #340 east onto I-565; follow I-565 until it ends on the east side of Huntsville (about 21 miles); when I-565 ends, it becomes Hwy 72 East (no turns required); after the road becomes Hwy 72, take the next left turn (about 1.5 miles), which is Moores Mill Rd (this will be at the bottom of Chapman Mountain); turn left (north) onto Moores Mill, go about 1/2 mile and the Ag Center will be on the left (just after crossing the railroad tracks).
