Russellville Police found themselves trying to negotiate with one of their own former officers Friday morning.
Robert Saint was reportedly armed inside his home on Ash Avenue.
It all started just before 10:30 AM and ended right at noon, with Robert Saint surrendering.
Officers speculate that he was hallucinating when her fired a gunshot inside his own bedroom.
"They came and knocked on our door and told us that we needed to leave," says Deborah Borden.
Scary stuff, especially for neighbors.
Borden and Patrice James were evacuated from their homes.
Police anticipating a worse-case scenario.
"I didn't know what was going on. They told us to go down the road," says James.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett says his department received a call from Saint's father, a report that his son was armed and firing his hand-gun.
"We found out later that the shot did indeed happen inside the home and it happened because the person thought he saw someone. It's our determination that he was hallucinating," says Hargett.
WAFF 48 News has learned that Saint left the Russellville Police force two years ago for health reasons, reportedly because of a tumor.
Sources also say that the former officer was arrested on DUI charges within the past two weeks.
Noon Friday, Saint surrendered and was taken to a hospital for observation.
Robert Saint could undergo evaluation soon.
As for criminal charges, there are none pending so far.
