Hazardous chemical leak in Madison County

A chemical spill in Madison County prompted evacuations Wednesday afternoon.

A small amount of aluminum phosphide spilled at Bragg Farm on Grimwood Road between Murphy Hill Road and Highway 431.

Authorities evacuated homes within a 1/2 mile radius of the spill.

HAZMAT crews have been testing the air and believe it is OK.

Aluminum phosphide is used as an insecticide.

HAZMAT crews are working to neutralize the ground where the chemical spilled.
