Man indicted for capital murder of toddler in DeKalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A man has been indicted for capital murder in the death of a 19-month-old child in DeKalb County.

Noe Mateo is being held in Cobb County, Georgia and will be extradited.

Prosecutors say the child died from blunt force trauma. It happened at a home in the Kilpatrick community in February 2017.

Mateo was the caregiver of the child at the time. The injuries were reported to law enforcement by the hospital where the child was treated.

WAFF 48 News first reported on this case in 2017. Prosecutors say Mateo threatened three people he thought would be witnesses. He was charged with three counts of intimidating a witness. He was sentenced to a 3-year term and was released after serving  9 months. He is on probation with "no contact" orders as a condition of release.
