UNA Lions prepare for their first Division 1 season

FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Football season is less than 26 days away for the University of North Alabama Lions. It will be one of their most exciting upcoming seasons ever as the football program gets ready to compete at the Division 1 level.

The Lions also have officially scheduled their first Football Bowl Subdivision game since 1997. UNA will face Brigham Young University on Nov. 21, 2020 in Utah.

The Lions are already putting in a lot of work this fall camp to prepare for their first ever Division 1 season when they will face six Football Championship Subdivision teams.

WAFF 48 News spoke with head coach Chris Willis on what needs to get done before they take the field on Sept. 1 at Southern Utah.

"Well as position wise, I'm really focusing on offensive line and defensive line. That's where I need to see if we can really create some depth at those two positions. Those two right now are the biggest concerns. Last year the new comers outnumbered the returners. This year it's the other way around. We have a good balance. We need to develop some leadership. We were lacking at that last year. So offensive line and defensive line is something that I'm looking at today," Willis said.
