REDSTONE ARSENAL, AL (WAFF) - Redstone Arsenal's popular bowling alley has received a major facelift!

Colonel Kelsey Smith, Redstone Arsenal's new Garrison Commander, gathered with MWR officials and families Friday to officially cut the ribbon for the Grand Re-Opening of Redstone Lanes. He bowled a strike outside the front door, knocking down pins set up on the ground as a fun way to mark the completion of the project.

The facility underwent a $620,000 renovation that includes new flooring, new lanes and approaches, new furniture and pinspotter upgrades.

Families got to enjoy the overhauled bowling center on Friday and staff members loved seeing their reaction as they walked through the door. Customers took advantage of free bowling and $1 shoes for the re-opening celebration.

"We replaced all of our flooring in the facility. We installed all new seating, new scoring consoles. We updated our scoring software. We installed brand new lanes and approaches for our bowling center and we upgraded to the newest high-tech machines for our back," said Bob Ujvari, business manager.

Redstone Lanes is available to anyone with access to the Arsenal. Bowlers who don't have access can contact the bowling center at 256-876-6634 to arrange it.

It has been voted the #1 bowling alley in the Huntsville area for several years in a row. It offers fall and summer leagues and a lot of programs for kids.

"It's nice and new. It's exciting. It gives us a new perspective on what our customers are going to feel like when they come through the door. We have almost 750 league bowlers on top of the recreational bowlers that we have come through our facility every day. We're looking forward to seeing the positive, strong feedback from everybody," Ujvari said.
