MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A man has been charged following the fatal shooting of a Montgomery woman on Tuesday.

Courtney Morris, 26, is facing one count of murder following the death of 41-year-old Cynthia Hand.

According to Capt. Regina Duckett, the charges are related to a shooting incident that happened around 7:45 p.m. in the 4700 block of Narrow Lane Road. When officers arrived at the scene they found two women who had both been shot.

Hand was pronounced dead at the scene, Duckett says, and the other victim, Erica Allen, 29, was taken to a local hospital. Allen was later pronounced dead.

An initial investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation between multiple people. It was later determined that the incident began with an argument between Hand and Allen. Duckett says it is believed hand fatally shot Allen during the argument. Hand was then fatally shot by Morris, Allen’s boyfriend.

MPD says Hand would have been charged with murder in Allen’s death if she had survived.

Morris was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Wednesday and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
