Former Decatur nursing home employee charged with abusing resident

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Decatur police have arrested a former employee of River City Assisted Living.

On June 22, police took an assault report from an 87-year-old female resident. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Detectives developed Kyla Dionne Brown as a suspect. She was an employee of the nursing home at the time but was not a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

Brown was immediately suspended without pay and has since been fired from River City.

On Monday, Brown was arrested on the charge of assault - elder abuse and neglect in the second degree. She was booked at the Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

"We believe this case to be an isolated incident but will continue to investigate further. River City Assisted Living was cooperative and transparently assisted in all investigative proceedings," the Decatur Police Department stated in a news release.
