HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A new airline will soon begin operating in Huntsville as Frontier Airlines will soon be partnering with Huntsville International Airport.
It was in 2005 that Huntsville International Airport first approached Frontier about expanding to the Rocket City, but in recent years that conversation got more serious.
In a big reveal on Tuesday, they announced two nonstop flights to Denver and Orlando with fares starting at just $39.
Frontier Airlines is the the eight largest commercial carrier in the U.S.
Airport executives say this now takes their nonstop flights up to nine and further improves the economic transportation in the area. They hope now to keep those travelers from driving to Nashville, Birmingham, or Atlanta.
"This is a real low cost carrier. I'm confident that if this community supports them and they're filling those seats, then they're going to stay. It's a business. If they're making money in this market, then they're going to stay." said Jana Kuner with Huntsville International Airport.
"Frontier" is headquartered in Denver and serves more than 80 cities in the United States, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
The first flight out of Huntsville will take off to Denver on October 5th and then a couple of weeks later on October 21st, you can fly nonstop to the sunshine state.
Frontier also operates multiple Airbus aircraft including the Airbus A319, A320, and A321. Airbus has a plant in Mobile.
