RAINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

If you live in Rainsville there is a place where you can get fresh fruit and vegetables picked from local farms.

The town has been building a new facility for vendors and it's open.

Farmers markets have gotten really popular over the years and it's no different here.

There was already a packed crowd when they opened at 4.

Eighteen vendors have packed the new farmers market in Rainsville.

It's become a big hit for people here to find fresh fruits and vegetables. Everything from beans to okra to onions, squash, and zucchini can be found at the market.

For the first time this year, corn is now in.

Don't miss out on the fruits. Fresh peaches and plenty of blueberries are on hand.

At the Rainsville Farmers Market you'll also find things just a bit different. The homemade pies are absolutely wonderful.

One farmer said he wanted to bring something really creative and see how it appeals to customers.

"I was sitting around here thinking about well what could I get that nobody else is selling. I thought hey, what about some homemade ice cream? So the peaches come in and I'm going to try it just to see if it will do good. Hey, try that. Just something to do different," said local farmer Stanley Sims.

The homemade peach ice cream went over well. In fact, he sold out.

The farmers market here will be open every Thursday from 4 until 7 through Sept. 27.
