BOAZ, AL (WAFF) - The city of Boaz is preparing for a Fourth of July celebration this weekend. It's being called the Down Home Summer Fest.
There's a theme to this year's event. It's called Loving Local. That means all the acts that are coming are originally from the area.
Billy Dyar Boulevard will close as they set up and prepare for this year's Down Home Summer Fest.
It starts Saturday morning with local crafters and an expanded kids area.
There's always plenty of food with the food vendors on hand.
They've managed to book all acts that have local ties. The music gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with Soul Survivor from Guntersville, then national TV star Brandon Elder from Arab, and then it's rock and roll musician Damon Johnson, who is originally from Geraldine.
Following the music, a big fireworks show is scheduled.
"I hope they come and have some wonderful family time and just really get into the spirit of the celebration of our nation. Our nation is the best in the world and we need to celebrate that this time of year," said Boaz Chamber of Commerce president Jodi Skinner.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday.
