LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The 16u Lawrence County All-Stars girls softball team is the first-ever rec team from Lawrence County to qualify for the World Series.
Over the weekend, these girls competed in the state competition in Athens and placed second. The team consists of 12- to 15-year-old girls with two 16-year-olds who competed against a team of 18-year-old girls. Their success this year has made north Alabama history as they prepare to compete in Gulf Shores on July 1-5.
But they need your help. In order for the girls to attend the World Series, they must raise $8,000 before Friday June 29. Donations will go to their room and board, transportation and a week's worth of groceries for 12 girls, four coaches and four chaperones.
They have worked incredibly hard and truly deserve to compete in the World Series, but without the money they cannot attend.
The team and coaches hope that the community can come together and choose to be a part of Lawrence County and north Alabama history by supporting these girls and sending them to the World Series.
Here is how you can donate:
The team is having a fundraiser in front of O'Reilly Auto Parts in Moulton on June 28 starting at 11 a.m. They will be holding a car wash and a bake sale to raise money. The address is 11931 Alabama 157, Moulton, AL 35650.
