GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Officials say they found a missing 16-year-old girl last seen in Guntersville in San Bernadino, California in the Twin Peaks area on Wednesday morning.
Investigators say Shelby Freeman was with Caleb Storm Walker at the time. Walker has been arrested for interference of custody and has been booked into San Bernardino County Jail.
Police say they were found in Freeman's 2017 black Toyota Corolla.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency had been looking for 16-year-old Shelby Rae Freeman over the weekend after it was reported that she was last seen on Sunday at a residence in Guntersville.
Freeman's family began passing out flyers around Guntersville on Tuesday morning. asking for the public's help. The teenager was supposed to return home from Georgia on Sunday, but her family had not seen or heard from her.
The girl's mother, Pamela Freeman, said she did not know of any relationship between her daughter and Caleb Walker before Shelby's disappearance.
"I learned this later that Shelby potentially picked him up to help whatever be. Take him somewhere, whatever the case may be and at that point they're gone. That is it. No one can find them. No one can find them," said Freeman.
Her older brother, Hunter Fouts, said his sister is very loving and does not have any reason to believe she would run away.
"I think that she was doing that guy a favor maybe and uh it just kind of escalated from there. I don't think she meant to run away," said Fouts.
Her mother said they had located her on her phone, but that locator was turned off at the Wavaho Gas Station on Highway 431. There was no surveillance video that showed Freeman or her black 2017 Toyota Corolla.
"It makes me sick to think it's voluntary, but I don't know. I just know they're missing. And people are hiding them and I wish you would quit hiding them," added Freeman.
Officials tell us Walker is awaiting extradition back to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
