LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - An investigation into missing funds has resulted in the arrest of a Lauderdale County woman.
Florence police say that a local builder contacted authorities in August 2017 after he noticed inconsistencies within his business's expenditures.
After an investigation into the case, evidence was found pointing to Carnley Melton, who was employed by the business. The evidence showed that Melton had written checks from the business account without permission, totaling over $16,000.
The case was heard by a Lauderdale County Grand Jury who issued an indictment against Melton.
Melton was arrested on Monday with 50 counts of Unlawful Possession of a Forged Instrument and three counts of theft in the first degree. She was transported to Lauderdale County Detention Center, but later posted bond in the amount of $90,000.
A trial date for Melton has not been set.
