HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A dangerous encounter with Mother Nature almost took a life Saturday.
78-year-old Anthony Rumore was backing out of his driveway on Greenleaf Circle in South Huntsville when a powerful storm marched through the area, knocking down a tree that stood for over 5 decades.
"How he managed to get out of the car and walk away from it is unbelievable," Brandi Miller, his daughter proclaimed.
"I just came out like this out of that door and walked across branch, kind of moving them around and just came over this area here and then walked the sidewalk and back into the house," Anthony Rumore explained.
Rumore was planning to run some family errands, but Mother Nature had other plans.
"It started raining really hard and a swooshing sound came with very high wind," Rumore described.
That's when the tree fell on top of him. He says for a moment he thought he was going to die.
The good news is that he's in normal health with absolutely no pain.
"It really is such a blessing because he's such an intricate part of our family. I have no clue what we'd do without him," Miller said. His insurance adjuster will pay him a visit this week and then the cleanup begins.
