FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) - Florence police have released the names of the individuals involved in a fatal shooting in Florence early Sunday morning.
Florence police say that a University of North Alabama Police patrol unit heard gunshots coming from the Westmoreland and Long Lane area around 2:40 a.m.
Police believe the shooting could have been the result of a long-standing disagreement, according to our news partners at the Times Daily.
Officers found a 42-year-old Patton Shipley, who had been shot, lying on the street. After Shipley was given medical aid, he was taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 42-year-old Howard Watkins had also been shot and was taken to the emergency room before officers arrived on the scene.
Investigators tell us several other people were transported to the police department for questioning, but they all have been released.
Police say no charges have been filled on anyone at this time and that the investigation is still ongoing.
