Ground is broken on new stadium in Madison

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Ground has been broken on the new multi-use stadium in Madison.

Hundreds of people came out to witness the historic moment. Leaders from Madison, BallCorps, the Minor League, the Southern League and investors were in town for the event.

"Looking forward to getting season tickets down here and enjoying it. We're just a mile away, so we can be here every day,” one guest added.

Some people are still on the fence about the stadium. “I’m with you on excitement. I’m anticipating it helping the revenue of Madison City and Madison County, but I don’t think it outweighs the potential invasion of privacy on the homeowners in the surrounding subdivision,” a guest told WAFF.

Meanwhile, BallCorps CEO Ralph Nelson says things are lining up well. "We've gotten all of our approvals, so we're gonna start naming staff here to get into the community. We're gonna start figuring out the transition from Mobile to here, but we've got some time. We're gonna look at people like Food and Beverage Directors and Stadium Operations Directors who will help us during the construction phase. Just keep working...that's what we're gonna do,” Nelson added.
