FYFFE, AL (WAFF) -

A former Fyffe student has been arrested and one teen is under investigation following a fire.

Authorities say a school resource officer was notified of a fire that had started in the ticket booth, as well as in the old gym, at Fyffe High School on the morning of June 6.

Following an investigation into that fire, officers were led to two suspects, Jonathan Martin, 19, and a 15-year-old.

“Thanks to the investigators, Fyffe Officers, School Principal, and the SRO’s we were able to find these suspects in such a short time,” said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris regarding the case.

Police questioned then arrested Martin after he admitted to starting the fire. He was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree and arson in the second degree. He was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center.

An investigation is still ongoing regarding the 15-year-old suspect.
