Muscle Shoals police offer home patrols for vacation-goers

MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) - Muscle Shoals Police Chief Clint Reck says many homeowners make the mistake of leaving their home unattended when they leave for vacation.

He says officers will drive by your property to make sure everything is OK. All you have to do is call the station before you leave and you will be added to their database system.

Reck says it's important to let your neighbors know you will be out of town. Don't leave trash cans at the end of the drive way and have the post office hold your mail.

"The biggest thing people fail to realize is posting your pictures on social media while your out of town is letting everyone know your house is empty," said Reck."

He said even though you may trust your friends and family, you can still tip people off with just one social media post.
