DeKalb County jail officer fired over relationship with inmate

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A corrections officer in DeKalb County has been terminated from her position.

Corrections officer Kayla Ignacio was fired from her part-time position, effective April 17.

Ignacio was terminated for having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate in the DeKalb County Detention Center, where she worked, and also for providing jail contraband to that inmate.

WAFF 48 News obtained this information after filing a public records request with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and DeKalb County government.

Court records state that after she was fired she confessed to starting a relationship with federal inmate Jackie Alder between summer and December 2017. He allegedly asked her to bring him a cellphone in November 2017, so she bought a $10 one and brought it to him.
