(WAFF) - LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are asking you to make a trip to donate this Memorial Day weekend.

"Collections tend to drop a little bit during the summer time so do a lot of different extra activities and collections to encourage people to come donate," says Eric Franchois with LifeSouth.  In a press release LifeSouth says blood donations drop-off during the summer time because of travel and school breaks.

There's something in it for you too through May 31st.

"We do a lot of different promotions to encourage people to come donate," says Franchois.  All donors will be entered to win a Yeti cooler through the 31st.

Franchois says each donation LifeSouth gets helps to save three lives.  He also tells WAFF 48 News that all the blood collected by LifeSouth in North Alabama goes to directly to the 12 major hospitals in the Tennessee Valley.

Blood donors must be at least 17 or 16 with parental permission, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is required. LifeSouth donors receive a complementary cholesterol screening with each donation. For additional information on blood donation, contact LifeSouth at 888-795-2707 or visit their website.
