COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Residents in Village One in Colbert County say they have sighted multiple coyotes in the area.

Animal Control says they are powerless to help residents because people are invading their natural habitat, not the other way around.

"We have had these issues happen in the past, but the reason they are coming out is because we are forcing them out. Building new houses and apartments is forcing them out of there natural habitat, said animal control officer Anthony Wilbanks.

Wilbanks said residents need to be on alert. Don't leave food outside and don't let pets roam around outside alone.

Animal control has no equipment that can catch a coyote.

Wilbanks said animal control can't do anything without permission from Alabama Department of Wildlife and Game.
