HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A new local organization is bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community. It's called LIT, which stands for Life Inspiration Team.

Around 20 officers not in uniform went to the Boys & Girls Club in Huntsville. There was a DJ, food and bounce houses for the kids to enjoy.

The idea is to give back to the community to gain trust and build relationships so that the kids see they are much more than officers. They are real people too.

"To let them know hey, no matter where you come from, no matter your background, no matter your situation, it's not the end of the world and you too can be successful," said LIT organizer Brandon Hampton. "And that there are folks in their community and there are folks concerned about their community that are going to be here to support them in that effort."

Anyone is welcome to participate, donate or help be a mentor.
