RAINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Rainsville Police Department has been converting an old armored truck donated to them by Brink's security services in Huntsville into a new mobile command post for the area.

Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith said their officers, along with the fire department and Sylvania police, have spent hours working on the truck. Now it’s  finished.

Smith said they have been overwhelmed by all of the help they have received from donations of supplies and help with outfitting the truck. Even local veterans volunteered their services for free to help protect their neighbors.

The armored truck will be stationed at Rainsville Police Department but will be dispatched to any local community in northeast Alabama that should need it in the event of emergencies such as tornadoes or active shooter situations.
