LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Officials in Lauderdale County are making progress toward building a new bridge.
A location has been pinpointed for the bridge to be built over Cypress Creek on Lauderdale 16, according to our news partners at the Times Daily.
Concerns from the community over the safety of the bridge forced it to be closed in July 2017. That bridge was just west of Mansion View Estates.
Lauderdale County Engineer Eric Hill and the county commission have stated that they wanted to build a new bridge for a while, but couldn't figure out where. The new bridge will be located just 200 to 300 feet north of the current bridge.
County Commissioner Fay Parker said that while closing the old bridge was not an easy decision, due to its deterioration, the county didn't have a choice.
Hill also said that since the project will be funded by federal money, the Federal Highway Administration will have to approve the site and design of the bridge.
