LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Another Limestone County neighborhood is begging commissioners to consider speed bumps to slow down drivers.
Two weeks ago WAFF 48 News reported about a Limestone County neighborhood just down the street with serious speeding issues. Commissioners said "no" to speed bumps because it slows down emergency personnel, they say.
Dane Clarke called us after that report with issues of his own.
"They don't stop. They just roll through," he said.
Clarke reports that at times he's seen cars zip through his small neighborhood at 30 to 40 mph.
Clarke is the president of the homeowners association.
"I understand the issue with the speed bumps and emergency vehicles. But for this street we need something. Nothing more than two," Clarke added.
He said commissioners have told him the only way to get speed bumps is if they make the street private. Neighbors have concerns with that because if there's a need for repairs they may not be able to afford it.
"Anything we put down, they're gonna dig it up. That's what I was told. That's why we don't have any speed bumps and people just be flying down the street," Clarke said.
His main concern are the kids and the overall safety of the neighborhood.
"I hope that makes a difference somehow," he said.
It's a narrow street, which is another reason why they've seen accidents because as people speed, they hit cars parked along the curb.
You may remember the other neighbors say they are starting a petition with people across the county to present to commissioners. Clarke said they are willing to get on board.
