MADISON, AL (WAFF) - A fallen hero will be coming home on Friday and you can pay your respects.
1st Lt. David Albandoz of Madison was killed two weeks ago when a military C-130 crashed outside Savannah, Georgia.
The cause of that crash is still under investigation. We've learned that Albandoz's body will be coming home on Friday afternoon.
The flight landed around 4:15 p.m. at Huntsville International Airport.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by his funeral at noon. Both of those are at Legacy funeral home.
He'll be buried with full military honors at Huntsville Memory Gardens Saturday at 1:30.
Albandoz served for 16 years. Just last December, he was in Guantanamo right before the holidays visiting other soldiers who were deployed and wouldn't be with their families during that special time of year.
Friends of the family say that speaks to his character. He loved his job, they say, but being away from his family tore him up the most. That is why it was so special for him to see those soldiers in December. They say he was a very hard worker and a family man.
He is survived by a loving wife and a 2-year-old daughter. They're surrounded by loved ones during this difficult time with little answers.
