An interim president has been selected for Calhoun Community College.

The Alabama Community College System board of trustees announced the selection of Joe Burke. He is a career educator with more than 30 years of experience in higher education as an instructor, counselor and administrator.

Most recently, Burke served as vice president and dean of instruction at Northeast Alabama Community College.

"Dr. Burke is a proven leader who has devoted his career to improving the lives of community college students and I’m confident his skillset fits the description of the leader Calhoun Community College needs at this time,” ACCS Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker said in a news release. “I’m confident the students, faculty, staff and administration in Decatur and Huntsville will be well-served by Dr. Burke’s experience.”

Burke is filling in for departing president James Klauber, who took a job as president of Hagerstown Community College in Maryland.

Burke will begin at Calhoun on May 14.
