Students at Woodville High School gathered in the school's library for their inaugural Academic Signing Day this afternoon.

Students receiving full tuition scholarships or those totaling over $8,000 were honored.

Principal Jamie Darwin says they wanted to spotlight the students who have excelled in academic and technical fields and have been awarded scholarships.

"This was done much like an athletic signing day, but we wanted to spotlight the students who have excelled in academic and technical fields and have been awarded scholarships.  The idea came from one of our community stakeholders and Assistant Principal Doug Haynes and Guidance Counselor Jaime Perkins spearheaded the effort." said Darwin.

Five students are receiving scholarships from Auburn University, Northeast Alabama Community College and Gadsden State Community College.

Principal Darwin says it was a great day at Woodville with more than $60,000 in scholarships going to these students.
