2 people from Florence killed in VA crash

(WAFF) - Two people from Florence died in a crash in Virginia on Wednesday.

The crash occurred at 11:15 a.m. on Interstate 81 southbound in Roanoke Co. when a 2015 Acura ran off the road and hit a guardrail.

The driver lost control and the vehicle struck a 1999 Ford Explorer that was also traveling south. Both vehicles overturned.

The Ford was driven by Enid Beckwith, 59, of Memphis, Tennessee. Passengers included Annie Beckwith, 63, Emma Beckwith, 61, and Wanda Alexander, 58, all of Florence.

Emma and Wanda were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Annie and Enid, who were both wearing their seat-belts, were transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The Acura was driven by Ralph Carl Bryant, 65. The passenger was Joan Dickerson Bryant, 65. Both were from Brookhaven, Mississippi.

They were also transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
