Huntsville Police participated in the National Drug Take Back Event on Saturday.

In the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs, the majority of which were obtained from the home medicine cabinet.

To combat this, The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosted events across the country to provide an opportunity for people to dispose of unused prescription drugs.

Police reported 480 lbs of prescription were taken in as a result of the events in the Huntsville area.

For those that were not able to participate in the events on Saturday, there is a 24-hour drop-off depository for medication at 815 Wheeler Ave. in Huntsville.
