NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A bill that would ban most corporal punishment for students with disabilities is one step closer to becoming a law.

Last year, the News4 I-Team found that students with disabilities were paddled at a higher rate at dozens of Midstate schools.

That finding spurred an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller's Office.

The bill passed the House of Representatives earlier this month. It now has to pass the full Senate before going to the governor's desk.
