BIRMINGHAM , AL (WAFF) -

Former Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead is defending Senate candidate Roy Moore, saying he’s the target of a political attack.

Speaking with our sister station WVTM in Birmingham on Tuesday morning, Armistead said: “It's a cooked up charge against him because there are certain people in Washington who don't want him there.”

Armistead questioned the timing of the accusers and seemed to lay the blame on his own party. “There are some Republicans that don't want him there. The establishment Republicans in Washington just resent the fact that he is not going to come up there and be one of the crowd.”
